What Makes Penis Envy Different

Penis Envy is a variety of Psilocybe cubensis, a species of magic mushroom. Medical News Today describes it as "a particularly potent variety" of the species, named for its swollen, rounded cap and thick stem (Medical News Today).

A 2025 review of P. cubensis strains in the Journal of Fungi notes that the Penis Envy strain is known for its exceptional potency and distinct shape. The same review points out that psilocybin levels vary both between strains and between individual mushrooms of the same strain (Kurzbaum et al., 2025). That is exactly why we label every bar by weight and per piece.

Why Choose Penis Envy as Chocolate

Here is why we put Penis Envy in chocolate instead of selling it dried. Health Canada notes that potency varies between mushrooms and batches, and the 2025 Journal of Fungi review found variability within a single strain as well as between strains. With a strain known for its strength, guessing your dose from a handful of dried mushrooms is a real risk.

Our bars take the guesswork out. Each bar holds a set weight of Penis Envy mushroom divided across scored pieces, so you can take a quarter, a half or a whole piece and know the amount every time. The chocolate also makes it far easier to eat, since many people find raw mushrooms bitter and earthy.

There is a trust question too. Researchers at Oregon State University bought 12 "magic mushroom" edibles from shops in Portland, Oregon, and found that none of them contained psilocybin, while seven held ingredients that were not on the label (Oregon State University). How to Dose Penis Envy Chocolate

Because Penis Envy is known for its potency, we suggest starting lower than you might with other bars. Next steps for a first try:

Start with a quarter piece (50 mg) of a 200 mg bar.
Wait at least two hours before you decide how it feels. Do not take more in that window.
Take it on a calm day with no driving and nothing important planned.
Skip alcohol, cannabis and other drugs.
Write down the dose, the time and how you felt, and adjust slowly over several sessions.

Why wait two hours? Health Canada says the effects of magic mushrooms usually begin within 15 to 45 minutes and last about four to six hours (Health Canada). A Penis Envy Microdose Routine

If you plan to use a Penis Envy bar for a microdose routine, taking a small amount on set days and tracking how you feel, keep doses small and steady, write everything down, and give yourself rest days.

We also want to be straight with you about the research. Clinical trials at Johns Hopkins and Imperial College London show promise for psilocybin in depression when it is given at therapeutic doses with professional support. Microdosing research is earlier: the largest placebo-controlled microdosing study, run by Imperial College London with 191 people, found that both the microdose group and the placebo group felt better, with no clear difference between them (Szigeti et al., eLife, 2021). In our view, that makes a careful, journaled routine even more useful. Decide what works for you based on how you actually feel.

Safety and Legal Notes

The law. Psilocybin is a controlled substance in Canada. Health Canada states that selling, possessing or producing psilocybin is illegal unless Health Canada authorizes it, and that no psilocybin therapeutic product is approved. Read our Canadian legal guide and check the rules where you live.

Side effects. Medical News Today notes that psilocybin can cause anxiety or paranoia, temporary hallucinations and short-term changes in thinking and emotion, and that a rare condition called hallucinogen-persisting perception disorder can cause flashbacks. Health Canada warns that mixing psilocybin with alcohol, cannabis or other drugs raises the risk of serious side effects, and that it raises heart rate and blood pressure. If you have a heart condition, a personal or family history of psychiatric illness, or take medication, talk to a health care professional first.

Children and pets. Penis Envy chocolate looks like a regular chocolate bar. Poison centre data from 55 US centres showed psilocybin calls among teens more than tripled between 2019 and 2022, and the lead researcher warned that young children may mistake edibles for candy (MDedge). Keep every bar sealed, labelled and out of reach.

Storing Your Penis Envy Bars
