Microdose vs Macrodose: Choosing Your Mushroom Chocolate Dosage
Your mushroom chocolate dosage depends on what you want from the day.
- Microdose: a small amount meant to stay below the level of clear effects. On our homepage we describe a beginner microdose as 0.1 to 0.3 g of psilocybin mushrooms. That is one to three pieces of our 1.5 g bar, or a half piece to one and a half pieces of our 3 g bar.
- Macrodose: a full psychedelic experience. On our 6 g bar, we suggest starting with 1 to 2 pieces (1 to 2 g).
Here is why the format matters. In our experience, people who microdose want many small, even doses from one bar, so the 1.5 g and 3 g bars make sense. Microdosing Schedules With Mushroom Chocolate
Some people who microdose follow a schedule with planned rest days rather than dosing every day. One approach comes from James Fadiman, whose 2011 book The Psychedelic Explorer’s Guide introduced microdosing to a large audience (Psychedelic Science Review).
We also want to be honest about the research. The largest placebo-controlled microdosing study, run by Imperial College London with 191 people, found that both the microdose group and the placebo group felt better, with no clear difference between them (Szigeti et al., eLife, 2021). In our view, that makes a simple journal the most useful tool you have. Write down the dose, the day and how you felt, and judge your routine on real notes.
How Long to Wait Between Mushroom Chocolate Doses
A common dosing mistake is taking more too soon. Health Canada says magic mushroom effects appear within 15 to 45 minutes and usually last four to six hours (Health Canada). A clinical study found that psilocin, the compound your body makes from psilocybin, peaks in the blood about 2 hours after an oral dose (Holze et al., 2023).

Why a Measured Mushroom Chocolate Dosage Matters
Health Canada notes that “the strength of magic mushrooms can vary greatly.” Lab testing backs that up. A 2026 study in the Journal of Fungi found that psilocybin varied by about 13% to 23% between individual mushrooms of the same strain (Sharchaton et al., 2026). Researchers at Oregon State University also bought 12 “magic mushroom” edibles in Portland, Oregon and found that none of them contained psilocybin (Oregon State University).

Mushroom Chocolate Dosage Safety
Next steps to keep any session safer:
- Start low. Use the smallest dose on the chart for your product, especially the first time.
- Keep it simple. Health Canada warns that mixing magic mushrooms with cannabis, amphetamines or alcohol raises the risk of serious side effects.
- Check your health first. Health Canada says magic mushrooms raise heart rate and blood pressure, and that people with existing psychiatric conditions, or a predisposition to them, may face a higher risk of side effects. Talk to a health care professional if either applies to you or if you take medication.
- Clear your day. Plan for four to six hours with no driving and nothing important on the calendar.
- Store it safely. Keep every bar sealed, labelled and out of reach of children and pets.
