What Are Psilocybin Mushrooms?
Psilocybin mushrooms are a kind of mushroom that possess a proactive compound called psilocybin. This compound has hallucinogenic properties and is commonly used in several countries as a drug. When you take the magic mushrooms, you will see, hear or even feel things that are not there. You may also experience muscle twitches, fear, nausea, and more accompanied by increased blood pressure and heart rate.
The active ingredients in Psilocybe mushrooms are psilocin and psilocybin. The United Nations Drug Control Conventions control these psychoactive substances internationally, and Canada holds them under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act or CDSA.
Under the CDSA, all activities with psilocybin, including production and sale, are authorized by Health Canada, and this is through the issuance of a license or under regulations. Like all drugs, psilocybin and psilocin are subject to the Food and Drugs Act.
To ensure the safe consumption of psilocybin, companies are now making psilocybin chocolate. Since it’s inadvisable to inject psilocybin mushrooms, the chocolate bars offer a better alternative. However, many people are wondering if they are legal in Canada.
Is Psilocybin Chocolate Legal in Canada?
In 2020 when COVID-19 was raging worldwide, Canada legalized the use of psilocybin mushrooms. Health Canada granted exemptions to people with depression and other mental illnesses, allowing them to possess and consume psychedelic mushrooms.
As reported by News18, a 67-year-old Mona Strelaeff living in British Columbia received the exemption to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. With the exemption, she can now consume psychedelic mushrooms to treat her mental illness.
Speaking to reporters, Mona said she has struggled with depression, anxiety, and even addiction for many years. Speaking about her mushroom consumption, she said that the psilocybin therapy was beneficial to her health.
After Health Canada exemptions, several companies have already received licenses to research psilocybin. Now, they are also permitted to cultivate the mushrooms and create products to help treat illnesses.
One of the products currently available is psilocybin chocolate bars. Made from the highest quality magic mushrooms, the bar contains 6+ grams of psilocybin. If the bar has six pieces, each piece contains 1 gram of psilocybin mushrooms. These chocolate bars are usually formulated to give each person their preferred dose.
In Canada, psilocybin is a Schedule III substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. This means that selling magic mushrooms in Canada is subject to criminal penalties, but possession is legal. While Health Canada exempts companies, there is a questionable legal status surrounding psilocybin chocolate bars.
However, psilocybin chocolate bars are usually sold openly online in Canada. You can order the chocolate bars and have them delivered to your doorstep. A microdose from the chocolate bars will improve your mental health and increase overall mental wellness.
